PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this conference has, unfortunately, been cancelled! We have retained the details here for future reference only. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Registration and abstract submission details for the 2016 IUFRO Tree Seed Physiology and Technology Conference are now available! Click here for all the information on the conference to be held from the 29th June – 1st July 2016 in Portsmouth (UK).
Please note that the final date for registration, payment and abstract submission is Friday 27th May 2016.
We do realise that this is relatively short notice, but we would encourage you to make every effort to attend and to present your research. We do require a minimum of 15 delegates for the conference to proceed, but hope to see many tree seed scientists in Portsmouth at the end of June 2016.
Three broad themes for the conference are as follows:
- Technology: testing, stratifying and storing tree seeds.
- Physiology and ecology: germination and dormancy breakage of tree seeds in a changing climate.
- Pests and pathogens: detection and eradication of current and emerging threats in tree seeds.
We look forward to your participation!
Shelagh McCartan, on behalf of the Organising Committee
The 31st Congress of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) will be held from 15 to 21 June 2016 in Tallinn, Estonia.
Proposed session topics include:
- Applications of germination and dormancy testing
- Advances in seed health testing for ensuring quality seed production and storage
- Environmental effects on seed quality
- Cellular and molecular methods and new approaches to seed quality determination
- Conservation and use of genetic resources in crop, forest and wild species
- Presentations on ISTA’s technical work and meetings of ISTA Technical Committees
Registration for this congress opened on 1 October 2015. For more information on the congress, and registration information, click here.
We would like to invite you to attend a conference on ‘Tree seeds – Ecology, physiology and technology’, which we plan to hold in the United Kingdom in 2016 (29th June – 1st July, 2016). There are four proposed themes:
- SEED TECHNOLOGY
- SEED PESTS AND PATHOGENS
- SEED ECOLOGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE
- SEED ‘OMICS
Please let us know if you would be interested in attending, and whether you would prefer to present a paper or poster. Details will follow once we have a better idea of the number of people that are interested in attending this conference (as this will affect where the conference can be held).
Please email Shelagh McCartan or Marnie Light by Friday 18th September so that we can start to plan the conference. We need a minimum of 30 delegates to make the conference worthwhile (financially and scientifically)!
We look forward to hearing from you and your colleagues.
The ISSS Seed Ecology V conference dates are out!
The focus of Seed Ecology V, to be held in Brazil from 21-25 August 2016 (with an optional post-conference tour from 26-30 August), will be “Seeds in the Web of Life”. Seed Ecology conferences, promoted by the International Society for Seed Science, are international, thematic, scientific meetings devoted exclusively to Seeds and the Environment. These conferences are a great opportunity for seed biologists to gather and share their research findings and ideas.

Seed meets Technology is an event about innovative seed- and coating technology, breeding support, sustainable crop protection, growing systems and varieties. It takes places near Zwaagdijk-Oost (The Netherlands), from Tuesday 22 September to Friday 25 September 2015.
